Health Is Wealth: Why Financial Literacy Is the Missing Piece in Your Wellness Journey

Deep Dives

We’ve all heard the cliche health is wealth,” but rarely do we talk about how wealth—or more importantly, our understanding of money—impacts our health. Financial literacy isn’t just about balancing a budget or choosing the right investments. It’s about cultivating the peace of mind that comes from knowing you're in control. I remember in my mid 20’s where I had to react to financial challenges which only then created stress and havoc in my life. I was unaware how my lack of financial literacy and planning was the key factor when I would find myself in these fight or flight situations. I even fell into the cash advance cycle through paycheck loans with my bank which is a financial trap and mind f**k. Financial literacy is about creating a life where your financial decisions support your mental, physical, and emotional health.

"The best investment you can make is in yourself." – Warren Buffett

Money and Wellness Are Deeply Connected

We can’t separate money from life, and we can’t separate it from wellness. When we understand our finances, we make better choices, reduce stress, and open doors that support a healthier lifestyle. Here’s how financial literacy shows up in every area of well-being:

  • Mental Health: Money stress is one of the leading causes of anxiety. Financial literacy gives you clarity, which lowers stress and empowers you to take action instead of reacting in fear.

  • Physical Health: The ability to afford quality food, healthcare, gym memberships, therapy, and even rest—yes, rest—all stems from financial stability. Health really is wealth, and when your money supports your wellness, your body feels it.

  • Emotional Health: Confidence in your financial choices builds self-worth. You don’t feel stuck. You feel powerful. That emotional security spills over into your relationships and the way you show up in the world.

  • Spiritual Health: When your finances align with your values, you can give, serve, and live with more purpose. Whether it's tithing, donating to causes, or simply being generous with your time—financial literacy makes space for spiritual fulfillment.

Money itself is not the end goal. It's the freedom and options that money provides which are enriching”- Suze Orman

What Financial Literacy Really Means

Improving your Financial Literacy is not just knowing the difference between saving and investing. It’s understanding how your money decisions affect your daily peace, your long-term health, and your family’s future. It’s about building a lifestyle rooted in intention, not survival. We want to thrive not just survive!

Financial Literacy helps you:

  • Set goals that align with your version of a healthy, happy life

  • Avoid financial pitfalls that derail progress

  • Communicate better with loved ones about money

  • Leave a legacy of wellness, not just wealth

Start Small, Think Big

You don’t have to have it all figured out today. But every step you take toward financial literacy is a step toward holistic wellness. Read a book. Listen to a podcast. Talk to a professional. Start the conversation with your kids. It’s not about perfection—it’s about progress. One step at a time.

Remember: Health is wealth. And Financial Literacy is the key to unlocking both.
