New Year, New Money Mindset: Start 2025 Focused on Reaching Your Goals

As we kick off the new year, there is an opportunity to refresh your financial mindset and set yourself up for success. Adopting a healthy money mindset doesn’t happen overnight—it requires intentionality, reflection, and action. Let’s explore three powerful strategies for creating a financially fulfilling year: a values exercise, money mantras, and monthly money dates.

Step 1: Clarify Your Values

Your financial decisions should align with your core values. Begin this exercise by identifying what truly matters most to you. I’ve included a few steps below, and provided some personal examples.

  1. Determine Your Top 5 Values: My top values include: some text
  2. Connect Your Values to Financial Goals: For example:some text
    • I value peace, therefore, I avoid using credit cards for unnecessary expenses and pay off my balances weekly. For me, credit card debt = stress.
    • I value wealth, so I review my finances weekly, eliminate careless spending (sometimes, I have to course-correct!), and strive to keep my spending habits in alignment with my goals.
  3. Eliminate Value Misalignments: Log in to your budgeting app and review your spending habits over the last 90 days. Are there areas where your money doesn’t reflect your values? In 2024, I spent almost $900 on eyelash extensions! After reflecting, I determined that they do not bring me joy, peace, or wealth. I can redirect those funds toward the priorities that matter most, like my F.I.R.E (financial independence, retire early!) plan.

By anchoring your financial goals in your values, you can create a money mindset that is both sustainable and meaningful.

Step 2: Create Empowering Money Mantras

Money mantras can help shift your mindset, reinforcing positive beliefs about your financial potential. Here are a few examples:

  • “Money flows to me in expected and unexpected ways”
  • “I am worthy of making more money.”
  • “I have the power to create the financial future I desire.”

How to Use Your Mantras:

  1. Write Them Down: Place them somewhere visible, like your mirror, planner, or phone wallpaper.
  2. Repeat Daily: Say your money mantra aloud each morning to set a positive tone for the day.
  3. Revisit as Needed: As your financial situation evolves, create new mantras to match your goals.

Step 3: Schedule Monthly Money Dates

Consistency is key to staying on top of your finances. Monthly money dates are a simple and effective way to review your progress and adjust as needed.

How to Host Your Money Date:

  1. Set the Mood: Make it enjoyable! Light a candle, brew your favorite tea, or play music.
  2. Review Your Finances:some text
  3. Plan Ahead:some text
    • Update your budget for the upcoming month.
    • Set specific action steps, like paying off a debt or increasing savings.
  4. Celebrate Wins: Acknowledge and reward yourself for hitting milestones, no matter how small.

Additional Tips for a Strong Financial Year

  • Automate Savings: Set up automatic transfers to your savings account so you’re building wealth effortlessly.
  • Educate Yourself: Read a personal finance book or take a course to strengthen your financial knowledge. Book Ideas
  • Find an Accountability Partner: Share your goals with someone who can keep you motivated and on track.

You'll cultivate a money mindset that supports your dreams by grounding your financial journey in your values, reinforcing positivity with money mantras, and staying consistent with monthly money dates. Let 2025 be the year you continue to take charge of your finances and live aligned with what matters most.
